Protecting Older Adults from Financial Exploitation

The Institute of Gerontology's Older Adult Nest Egg website offers convenient, validated tools for seniors, professionals and caregivers who need a simple way to assess the financial decision-making capacity and combat financial exploitation. OlderAdultNestEgg.com is free and open to all.
 
Visit the Caregiving Section of Older Adult Nest Egg for trainings on money management, difficult conversations and more. Complete the Family & Friends Questionnaire if you are worried about the financial decisions being made by someone you care for.

Successful Aging thru Financial Empowerment (SAFE)

SAFE one-on-one financial coaching for older adults, and family or friend caregivers who have been a victim of scam or ID theft. We can  assist over the phone or do a video chat with you. Our assistance is safe, confidential and free. Contact LaToya Hall at (313) 664-2608 or be referred through a partner agency and let us help you with:

  • Contacting credit reporting agencies
  • Filing police reports
  • Closing compromised accounts
  • Budgeting and record-keeping
  • Placing fraud alerts on your credit report 
  • Registering consumer complaints

Successful Aging thru Financial Empowerment also provides education and assessments to insure the finances of older adults are secure and protected. We educate older adults, caregivers, and the professionals and organizations who work with them.
